I am a Doctor of Marital and Family Therapy (DMFT), an AAMFT Approved Supervisor for over seven years, and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with over 15 years of experience serving low income communities, individuals and families experiencing homelessness, and offenders of the law. I am the Founder and CEO of Vessels of Strength, LLC an organization currently serving men and women through opportunities for authorship, ministerial work, and mentorship. I have conducted research in the areas of homelessness and infidelity and physical abuse among African American Married Couples. I am the lead author in the 2014 Social History of the American Family Encyclopedia, articles entitled, Housing Crisis, and Work and the Family. I collaborated with three African American men to mentor others through the book entitled Vessels of Strength, Can you hear me now? Screaming Into Destiny!  As a supervisor, I have adopted the narrative approach to supervision. My narrative focus on supervision creates opportunities for my trainees and supervisees’ voices to be heard. I do this by encouraging my trainees and supervisees to discover their own philosophy in using narrative therapy or another modality if necessary. Creating an environment for the voices of my trainees and supervisees to be known provides them the opportunity to identify and increase their confidence as a new therapist while also developing their own identity as therapist through my narrative approach. I also allot time for my trainees and supervisees to discuss how culture and their values are instrumental in their philosophy.  I have experience with supervising trainees who are students in Marriage and Family Therapy and Professional Clinical Counselors including associate clinical social workers.
